The benefits of composite doors

Composite doors have been on the market for quite some time, but only recently have they become increasingly popular, you might even be asking your self what is a composite door? Below we are going to talk about some of the benefits that a composite front door can bring to your home. We will be covering security, insulation properties, the appearance and feel, as well the the make up used in creating these beautiful doors.

First and foremost lets talk about the security as this is the most important aspect of any residential door. Being a home owner, keeping your home safe and secure will be high on your priority list when researching a new front door, and rest assured a new composite door will tick all the boxes, lets find out why. These doors are made from a solid 44mm thick door slab, which on its own weighs around 50kg. The slab itself is made up of a timber subframe and covered with a GRP outer skin. The outer skin that is on a quality composite door set will be at least 3mm in thickness on both sides, then the door itself is filled completely with a dense foam material making the doors even stronger than a hardwood timber door (not to mention lasting up to 5 times longer). The doors are fitted with a multi point locking system, and hung in a reinforced Upvc outer frame. The door will lock in multiple points running from the top, to the bottom of the frame. These doors have been tested to destruction and still remained operational even after allowing the police to try and enter using a battering ram unsuccessfully!

In additional to this, a composite door fitted correctly will greatly improve the thermal properties of your home. In fact a composite door will keep in as much as 8 times more heat compared to a traditional timber door. With this in mind, you will also be making a solid long term investment by greatly cutting down on your gas and electricity bills in the future. In October 2010 the building regulations were amended and under the new legislation is was a requirement for all new front doors to have a U-value of 1.8W/m2K or less. The U-value measures the energy efficiency of the doors, and is a minimum requirement. A quality GRP composite door will pass this requirement with flying colours, and you can enjoy the benefits of keeping the cold out and the warmth in year after year.

You will also find that the look and feel of a quality composite front or back door, closely replicates a real timber door, with a wood grain effect on the front and back, your neighbours will never know the difference! They are available in a range of different colour finishes and we have a vast choice of beautiful glass options, which are either double or triple glazed and toughened as standard.
